9 Reasons to Choose DefenseLite for Glass Security

high security double glazing

When roll-down gates and window bars are not an option, many customers prefer a fully transparent, see-through solution that looks cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing to a building’s glass windows and doors.

In turn, the debate is often between window security film, laminated glass, and polycarbonate solutions like DefenseLite. While each of these products provides optimum transparency, the level of protection each product offers is vastly different.

If you need the ultimate in glass security without compromising appearance, while keeping maintenance and repair costs low, the decision between window security film, laminated glass, and DefenseLite couldn’t be more clear.

What is DefenseLite and Why is it Better?

DefenseLite is a clear polycarbonate security shield system that installs over existing window and door glass, creating a layer of protection designed to keep the bad guys out. Not only does it provide security to your building, but it also has other additional benefits like street noise reduction and adding a layer of thermal insulation to your glazing.

Now that you know what DefenseLite is, you may be asking yourself “What makes DefenseLite better than other overglaze security glass enhancements?” DefenseLite is unique and a step ahead of the alternatives in the market today. It’s clear and unobtrusive like security window films but doesn’t break like expensive laminated glass while also providing the forced entry defense of unsightly roll down grills and grates.

Here are some of the reasons why DefenseLite proves itself better than other window security installations like security film, laminate glass panels and competitive overglaze window security products.

1. Manufacturer Reputation

To start with, DefenseLite’s manufacturer, Impact Security, LLC, was the first to create vented polycarbonate overglaze systems with the launch of DefenseLite in 2015. That means we’re a step ahead of all of our competitors. This has allowed our technical and engineering team the opportunity to refine and improve our forced-entry and ballistic mitigation glazing systems ahead of the curve. Our customers get exactly what they need to protect their commercial building or storefront – durable, effective, affordable, and aesthetically appealing systems thanks to this unmatched, real-world experience.

2. Product Design

Every DefenseLite system is custom-designed with two core constituencies in mind: the Architect and the Loss Prevention Security professional. No architect wants their hard work blighted with an unsightly, obtrusive security system and no loss prevention professional wants a sub-par security system for their building.

DefenseLite shields are nearly invisible once installed thanks to a retrofit custom aluminum extrusion, but they also provide top of the line defense against intruders and flying objects thanks to the proprietary, clear polycarbonate which is 250 times stronger than glass. We’ve combined the best of both worlds, keeping both the architect and the loss prevention professional happy.

3. Engineering

Since each DefenseLite system is custom-designed to meet your needs, we have an extensive technical and engineering team which consists of some of the most respected and experienced glass and glazing technical professionals in the world. From start to finish, you’ll be interacting with team members that are the best at what they do. Our technical team will walk you through the design process to ensure that you’re getting the protection you need and the features you want all within your budget.

4. Materials

With a top of the line manufacturer and incredible engineering team, DefenseLite uses the best of materials science to create a stronger and more durable security shield than competitors. Here are some of the robust American-made components you can expect from DefenseLite:

  • T-21 thick-walled aluminum extrusions that allow this system to be retrofitted, creating a buffer zone to protect the existing glass.
  • Heavy-gauge UV coated and abrasion-resistant polycarbonate shields that keep intruders, noise, and dangerous weather out.
  • High-bond elastomeric VHB tapes and stainless steel ‘flex’ security anchors to ensure that once installed, the DefenseLite system is weather sealed and isn’t going anywhere.

Each of these components contributes to DefenseLite’s capabilities and its low profile appearance.

5. Testing

At DefenseLite, we go above and beyond typical testing standards. While all DefenseLite and BulletShield systems are tested at respected 3rd party testing facilities, we also rigorously test each product internally to ensure that they meet industry standards for forced entry and ballistic mitigation.

Using a variety of weapons and other tools, we have put both DefenseLite and BulletShield products to the test to ensure that no one is getting through this security shield no matter what they’re using to attempt an invasion.

We’ve also tested BulletShield using a variety of firearms and have found that it stands up to even the most rigorous attacks, providing time for law enforcement to arrive and intervene. BulletShield has also been independently tested to UL752 standards and all ballistic reports are available for review.

You can rest easy knowing that your DefenseLite system will stand up to any attack. See for yourself by watching some of our internal tests here.

6. Installation Services

When you decide on DefenseLite or BulletShield, we’ll first provide an onsite assessment to help you define your threat level and the appropriate DefenseLite solution to do the job you need while fitting into your budget. Our manufacturer, Impact Security, and its certified dealer network work together to make certain your project is assessed, fabricated, shipped, and installed properly anywhere in the US within 4-6 weeks of placing your order.

Once installed over your existing glass, DefenseLite and BulletShield are weather-sealed and engineered for removal if your circumstances change and the system needs to be taken off the building.

We take pride in the custom nature of DefenseLite and will do everything we can to make sure the design and installation process is performed efficiently and with the most ease for you and your business.

9. Guarantee

We also guarantee our product performance. If there is ever a failure in our system, i.e. an intruder is able to breach the shield and damage property, Impact Security will compensate you for your loss. Because we have put our product through such rigorous testing, we believe in and trust our system and hope you will too.
